About Comfort Quilts

Since 2002 Gig Harbor resident Carol Arnold has organized a project close to her heart. As a breast cancer survivor and a quilter, Carol knows about the power and comfort of a handmade quilt.

Quilt recipients are “people in a situation they never wanted or planned for.”(J.R.) “Thank you seems inadequate…you can count me as one very grateful cancer patient. (K.H.) Similar expressions emphasize how important this project is for all of us. “Please accept this note as an expression of deep gratitude to each of you for your concern for people like us. You have not only warmed our bodies, but you have warmed our hearts with your love.” (P.D.) “Thank you for the empathy and compassion that is so evident in this quilt.” (P.S.) Dr. Frank Senecal included these words in his letter of thanks to Carol and all of the quilter for their efforts: “I cannot tell you how kind and compassionate your efforts have been to our patients. The warmth and comfort in the face of what can be a frightening experience can change all of us. It brings healing to our patients, but also to see the joy.”

The word has gone out to the quilting community in our area and on a year round basis people can participate in the monthly sewing dates and/or donate quilts that they have created for this project.
